Article note: Years ago I was musing about the copyright implications of deterministic algorithms (eg. "a program that permutes all 32x32x8bpp images, making all possible favicons") as a fun experiment. It's been interesting (albeit much dumber than expected) to watch the AI bros, content racket, and U.S. legal system play dumb games with copyright on stochastic tools' inputs and outputs.
