Amazon's _The Peripheral_ was actually pretty OK so maybe I shouldn't be quite so skeptical, but Apple has been especially guilty of "We borrowed some names and set-pieces and made a nigh-unrelated generic character drama with them" scifi "Adaptation" behavior.
