What is the large black “bakelite” screw, on the top of the motor, in the above photo(s)? Mine is broken, and I am not sure I can even get it off. I want/need a replacement, before I try to get it out, and I need to know what to ask for.
That’s the carbon brush cap. It has a stubby little thread with a recessed bottom that holds the carbon brush and spring in place. Singer P/N 193543, Sew-Classic has repros. There should be an opposed pair on the top and bottom of the motor.
