IIRC there is now a split precedent because Amazon won as similar case about holding workers for unpaid time in a different jurisdiction.<\/div><img alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.vox-cdn.com\/thumbor\/1-cZYvBlR48tuABUH-d9E8gKsmQ=\/0x0:2040x1360\/1310x873\/cdn.vox-cdn.com\/uploads\/chorus_image\/image\/67348056\/acastro_170731_1777_0003_v2.0.jpg\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"\/><small>Illustration by Alex Castro \/ The Verge<\/small>\n\n  <p>Apple has to pay store employees in California for the time they spend waiting for their bags to be checked by security officers, an appeals court ruled this week. <\/p>\n<p>The US Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit <a href=\"https:\/\/cdn.ca9.uscourts.gov\/datastore\/opinions\/2020\/09\/02\/15-17382.pdf\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">issued the ruling Wednesday<\/a>, which reverses a summary judgment order in Apple&rsquo;s favor, as first reported by <a href=\"http:\/\/law.com\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>Law.com<\/em><\/a>.
